Australian business travellers are happier to go to Melbourne for business trips than any other large city or region in the country, according to a new survey by travel site Wotif.com.

Of more than 730 business travellers who responded to the survey, 33% said they prefer work trips to Melbourne, ahead of Sydney on 27%, Brisbane with 10% and Perth on 9%.

Apparently Melbourne is a perennial business traveller favourite, perhaps because they spend all their time inside in meeting rooms and not outside in the southern city’s colder weather.

“This is the third year in a row that Melbourne has taken the top spot, relegating Australia’s top-selling destination, Sydney, to second place each year,” Wotif.com spokesperson Megan Magill says.

Around the world, London is the favourite destination for business travellers ahead of New York, Hong Kong and Paris.
