Online social networking Bebo has moved to boost itself further up the net ranks – it is currently number 1 in the UK, but behind MySpace and Facebook in the US – by signing on to a new media distribution platform called Open Media.
WebProNews reports that Open Media will deliver videos and music or podcasts from the likes of Yahoo, the BBC, CBS, ESPN, MTV, Channel Four, ITN, BSkyB and Last.fm. This will help it compete better with MySpace, which has also moved to ramp up its entertainment content offering to users, and Facebook, which has seen an explosion in user-friendly applications since opening up to external developers earlier this year.
Being part of Open Media platform means contributing companies will not be charged for access to Bebo, are able to distribute their content using their own video players, place their own advertising and, perhaps most importantly, retain 100% of the any ad revenue generated.
