Few early school leavers who enroll in vocational education and training (VET) finish their qualification. Only 10% will complete it within four years of leaving school, according to research done by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research.
The study’s authors conclude that the failure to complete is not associated with the course being too difficult. Rather it appears to be more likely that the VET course was not what people expected or that there was a lack of motivation or interest in continuing the course.
