Internet search giant Google and advertising group Sensis have announced an agreement that will allow users of Google Maps to search business listings provided by Yellow.
The agreement means businesses advertising through Yellow will be exposed to possible new customers using Google Maps on computers, mobile phones and satellite navigation services.
The deal means Google Maps users can now search for businesses in a specified area and receive comprehensive data on those businesses exclusive to Google Maps.
The agreement will mean a significant boost of exposure for businesses advertising through Yellow, as Google Maps has become an increasingly popular search tool. After its “street view” search function was implemented, the service saw a 5000% increase in the number of Google searches for “street view” and “google maps.”
Google Australia general manager Karim Temsamani says the group is “deeply committed to developing a relationship with Australian businesses… we want to help small businesses who are growing their businesses through AdWords and other forms”, he says.
“We are making it easier than ever to find information, products and services. “
Sensis CEO Bruce Akhurst says the company “wants to find as many more customers as possible”.
“We’re really excited about it. It’s great for everybody concerned.”
The agreement is set to commence in the first quarter of 2009.
