It’s such a hassle having to get out of your car to fill up your tank, and now Dutch inventors have come up with a system that could mean you soon won’t have to.
Reuters reports that the TankPitstop robot refiller is effectively an automated arm equipped with tools that enable it to identify and remove petrol tank caps and put petrol into the car.
The $US111,000 gizmo uses sensors to carefully open the car’s petrol cap cover, unscrews the cap, picks up the fuel nozzle and directs it towards the tank opening.
The inventor of the TankPitstop, Nico van Staveren, says he was inspired by seeing robots working in agriculture. “I was on a farm and I saw a robotic arm milking a cow. If a robot can do that then why can’t it fill a car tank, I thought.”
