A whopping 90% of Australian women are seeking answers to the gap between men’s and women’s wages, a survey by Australian cosmetics company The Heat Group reveals.

A whopping 90% of Australian women are seeking answers to the gap between men’s and women’s wages, a survey by Australian cosmetics company The Heat Group reveals.

Heat’s survey of over 1000 women found 77% of women say men have more opportunities than women, while only 21% feel gender equality has been reached. Just over 45% of women think their employer pays them less than if a man was doing the same job.

Over three quarter say more improvement in equality issues is needed, while only 5% say inequality is no longer an issue.

The survey results come just a few weeks after the Australian Bureau of Statistics last month revealed women earn an average of 16% less than men or an average of $200 a week.

Gillian Franklin, managing director of The Heat Group, says the results just aren’t good enough.

“It’s been over 30 years since equal pay for equal work legislation was passed in Australia, and we’ve come a long way in fighting to end gender wage inequalities since then, but there’s still a long way to go,” she says.
