Children between six and 11 years of age might have been born in the digital age, but they are not heavy users of online media according to a new survey from US research firm Packaged Facts.

Children between six and 11 years of age might have been born in the digital age, but they are not heavy users of online media according to a new survey from US research firm Packaged Facts.

The report found 55% of boys aged nine to 11 and 46% of girls in the same bracket used the internet for less than an hour a week, or not at all.

Television remains the big medium among tweens, with more than 40% of nine to 11 year olds watching two or more hours of television on school days. In addition, half of the 10 most visited websites among children aged six to 11 were directly related to TV programs.

Kids might not be logging on, but they are clearly going green.

A separate Packaged Facts survey revealed environmental concerns are weighing heavily on young children’s minds, with more than half of kids aged six to eight reporting that they encourage their parents to buy green products.

Nearly three-quarters believe people should recycle and 40% say you should buy recycled paper products.
