Taiwanese tech giant Asus has refreshed its product line-up ahead of the Christmas sales season, unveiling a new PadFone, phablet, tablets and an NFC-enabled PC.
At the high-end of its product line, the company has unveiled the PadFone Infinity, a 5-inch smartphone that can be docked in a 10.1-inch tablet docking station.
The new Android device is built around a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, features 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera.
The company also unveiled the rather confusingly named FonePad 6, a Galaxy Note-style phablet with a 6-inch screen and a stylus.
However, the key specifications suggest a device already behind state-of-the-art.
The new device uses an Intel Atom processor rather than an ARM processor (as used in most smartphones and tablets), Android 4.2 (despite Google’s recent announcement of the forthcoming release of Android 4.4 KitKat) and HSPA+ mobile support rather than support for faster 4G/LTE networks.
The company also announced an update to its 8-inch and 10-inch MeMO Pad tablet devices.
Finally, in its PC product line the company has announced a new Windows 8 desktop PC, called the M70, which it claims is the world’s first NFC-enabled desktop.
The PC includes the company’s proprietary NFC Express software, which allows users of the company’s Android smartphones and tablets to sync their photos, videos and contacts by touching the two devices together.
