Social media giant Facebook has revealed it is currently in talks with Apple that could see a version of its Facebook Home launcher released for the iPhone.
As SmartCompany recently reported, the Facebook Home User Interface is an app launcher that completely replaces the standard Android interface.
It is currently available for selected smartphones through the Google Play store and comes pre-installed on the HTC First, and was released after years of speculation about a possible Facebook smartphone platform.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Facebook product director Adam Mosseri reveals the social media giant is discussing a potential release of the software for Apple’s iPhone, with similar talks taking place with Microsoft.
“We’ve shown them what we’ve built and we’re just in an ongoing conversation,” Mosseri says.
“It may or may not be Home. We could also just bring some of the design values to the [Facebook] iOS app. That might be how it ends up. Or we could build just the lock screen. Maybe then it’s not called Home, it’s called something else.”
Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg has revealed future versions of the software could include mobile advertising.
“There are no ads on [Facebook Home] yet. I’m sure at some point there will be.”
