Smartphones and tablets accounted for more than 10% of the worldwide web browsing market in October, according to new figures from Net Marketshare.

While 89.37% of web traffic still comes from the desktop, smartphones and tablets now account for 10.29% of traffic.

In contrast, video game consoles including Sony’s PlayStation 3, Microsoft’s XBox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii accounted for a statistically insignificant 0.2% of web traffic.

The figures are up dramatically from a similar survey conducted in March this year, when smartphones and tablets accounted for just 7.2% of traffic, compared to 92.51% from desktops.
