Asustek Computer has posted its largest quarterly profit in more than four years off the back of strong sales of its Google Nexus 7 and Asus Transformer tablets, and is forecasting higher tablet and netbook shipments in the fourth-quarter.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Taiwanese computer makerโ€™s net profit for the quarter stood at 6.71 billion New Taiwan dollars ($A221 million), up 43% from NT$4.68 billion year-on-year.

The company, which trades in Australia under its Asus brand, saw tablet shipments for the quarter grow to 2.3 million units, up from just 800,000 in the previous quarter, while notebook PC shipments stood at 5 million, up 14% from the previous quarter.

According to Gartner, the company also bucked PC-industry trends by posting a 7.3% rise in marketshare, with its shipments rising 12%.
