Calligra adding a professional writing and eBook app called Author to its office suite

The Calligra Project has announced it is adding a professional writing and eBook program, named “Author”, to the Calligra Suite office application.

While Calligra Suite already includes a word processor, named Calligra Words, the developers hope the specialised writing app will attract a new audience of textbook authors and novelists to the package.

According to H-Online, unlike traditional word processors, the new application will specialise in the creation of long texts, integrating the entire authoring process including synopsis, writing, reviewing, polishing and publishing.

Alongside Libre Office and Open Office, Calligra Suite is a free, open source office suite designed to compete with commercial products such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

The current version of Calligra Office was released in April, while Author is expected to join the suite in a future release.
