Samsung may have outsold the number of Nokia handsets sold during the first quarter of 2012, a new poll from Bloomberg suggests.

ย

The poll, questioned a number of analysts, and found that Samsung is expected to have sold about 92 million handsets during the first quarter, while Nokia is only estimated to have sold about 83 million; 12 million of those were smartphones.

Such a result would be the first time in years that Nokia hasnโ€™t sold the most handsets.

The Finnish company has been in dire straits for some time. It was late to invest in smartphone technology, but is hoping to retake the market with a partnership with Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 software.
