Adobe has launched the second version of its Open Source Media Framework for websites, apps and media players that play Flash video.

The H reportsย that the framework includes both the source code and the compiled code for Strobe Media Playback, which uses Adobe Flash Player 10.2 to play videos on websites.

Other features of the framework include improved switching between bitrates as appropriate, and the inclusion of โ€œbest effort fetchingโ€ of video fragments on the client side when a server drops out.

It is worth noting, however, that while Adobe has produced an open source framework for playing Flash video, the Flash platform itโ€™s built on remains closed source.
