Japanese Court orders Google to delete autocomplete terms

Google has been ordered to delete terms from its search engine suggested terms feature in Japan by the Tokyo District Court.

According to the Japan Times, the court made the order after a petition was filed by a man who claimed that the suggested terms for his name breach his privacy and got him fired.

It is believed that the case is the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

However, Google is rejecting the order, claiming that its search engine is beyond the jurisdiction of Japanese privacy laws, and that its in-house privacy policy does not warrant the deletion of the suggested terms.
