Google have released new statistics showing that devices running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) remain a tiny proportion of the Android user base.

ย

The figures, released to Android developers, show that the overwhelming majority of Android devices (58.6%) run Gingerbread (Android 2.3), with Froyo (27.8%) and ร‰clair (7.6%) also remaining popular with consumers.

However, the tablet-specific version Honeycomb continues to languish, running on just 3.4% of all Android devices. Users are also yet to adopt 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which currently makes up just 1% of all Android devices.

The figures are calculated by examining the version of Android used by visitors to the Android Market.
