Music streaming service Spotify has started offering third-party app products, the company announced in a dedicated press conference overnight.

The company announced that it will open its app platform to other developers, which will allow them to include Spotify capability and its other features.

“It’s going to be more like the Apple,” chief executive Daniel Ek told the Wall Street Journal. “We want to make sure the quality of the apps we get in is really, really high.”

Analysts have commented the move is a likely way for Spotify to diversify its offering as it competes against other offerings from Amazon and Google.

Spotify recently hired a local sales rep for Australia, suggesting the company may open local services soon.
