The Australian Communications and Media Authority is investigating 13 companies for making marketing calls that breached the Do Not Call register.

So far 2.1 million people have signed up to the register that began to operate six months ago. By the end of November there had been 14,427 complaints to ACMA, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Usually a warning to a company will suffice. But 13 investigations have been started against companies that have continued to breach the Do Not Call register rules.

A Sydney holiday and lifestyle club is being investigated for repeated breaches. Nearly 500 million numbers have been washed against the register, and the number rises every month.
