A new report from online security firm Symantec has found that both the iOS and Android mobile platforms are vulnerable to malicious attacks.

In the new โ€œWindow into Mobile Device Securityโ€ paper, the firm found that more business devices are being connected to third-party cloud ecosystems that can compromise security.

โ€œWhile offering improved security over traditional desktop-based operating systems, both iOS and Android are still vulnerable to many existing categories of attacks,โ€ it found.

โ€œiOSโ€™s security model offers strong protection against traditional malware, primarily due to Appleโ€™s rigorous app certification process and their developer certification process, which vets the identity of each software author and weeds out attackers.โ€

It also noted that Google has โ€œopted for a less rigorous certification modelโ€, allowing app developers to release programs without inspection.

โ€œThis lack of certification has arguably led to todayโ€™s increasing volume of Android-specific malware.โ€
