Software giant Microsoft has finally released a beta version of the Kinect for Windows software development kit, which will allow developers making desktop software to use Kinect technology.

So far Kinect has only been available as a peripheral to the Xbox 360, but Microsoft is hoping this will expand into Windows-based software.
โThe SDK is designed for academic researchers, developers and enthusiasts to take advantage of Kinect on the PC for creating incredible software projects utilising natural user interface (NUI),โ the company said on its blog.
However, while Microsoft says the software development kit is only for enthusiasts, developers point out the tech could be used for gaming and entertainment software.
