What’s better for your business? One day off now, or a forced week off later?
A stitch in time…
My four-year-old nephew was really sick this week. The poor little tacker was even sick for his birthday, and his Mum had to cancel his birthday party. Very disappointing…
And it got me thinking… How many of us power through our lives and ignore the little niggles of colds and flus and goodness knows what else, so that we can still go to work and bring home the bacon? How many of us soldier on regardless of the fact that we should probably be resting and recuperating at home in bed?
And what are we actually doing to ourselves by suppressing illness and ignoring the signals our bodies are trying to give us?
With these killer flus around at the moment, the nation’s spotlight is slowly turning towards our health and what symptoms we should be alert for. That’s all well and good, but I wonder how many of us actually get sicker than we “should” have because we soldier on through illness and lower our immune systems so that we are open to more and more disease?
So, here’s a thought for you…
Next time you’re faced with the question of whether or not to go to work because your throat is red-raw and your head is throbbing, ask yourself whether taking one day off to rest and recuperate before the symptoms progress too far will be better than being forced to take a week off later because you are so ill.
I know which one sounds better to me!
