Internet giant Google has acquired start-up eBook Technologies, with the company saying it will use the firm’s resources to deliver better experiences for reading eBooks on a variety of devices.

The announcement comes just weeks after Google launched an eBooks solution of its own, designed to compete with various other stores being introduced by major publishers and tablet manufacturers.

“We are happy to welcome eBook Technologies’ team to Google. Together, we hope to deliver richer reading experiences on tablets, electronic readers and other portable devices,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch.

It is understood that eBook Technologies makes use of a sophisticated distribution technology, which is what Google wants from the transaction.

The start-up describes itself as supplying, “a family of intelligent reading devices and licenses technologies that enable automated publishing and control over content distribution”.
