The University of New Mexico is suing chip manufacturer Intel, claiming the company has infringed on the institution’s patent for shrinking microprocessors.
The complaint was filed in the US District Court in Albuquerque earlier this week, according to Information Week. The allegation claims that a patent for double-patterning lithography technology was used by the company.
The University has made similar claims against Samsung and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. These complaints were made to the International Trade Commission.
“While STC was reluctant to use the courts to enforce our patent rights, we have no other recourse, given our duty to protect the intellectual property of our inventors and the university,” president and chief executive of STC.UNM Lisa Kuuttila said in a statement.
