Auditor-general slams NSW Government over data security

The New South Wales auditor-general has said the state government should start thinking about how it can improve it’s use of online security.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Peter Achterstraat says the government is not aware if its own departments are using proper methods to track security.

“Over the past decade the government has been issuing various edicts in relation to information security, but not a lot has been done,” he said.

“People often have no choice but to entrust their sensitive personal data to government. Government needs to ensure this information is secure, otherwise it could be stolen, records changed, privacy breached.
