Virgin Blue’s attempt to get its troubled computer check-in system under control has hit a snag, with 16 flights cancelled today and major disruptions to Virgin’s booking and reservation processes.
Just a week after Virgin cancelled hundreds of flights due to a glitch with its check-in systems, the airline has announced that 16 flights – mainly between Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra – have been cancelled.
The majority are in the morning, although there are some flights later in the day that have been canned. A full list of the flights cancelled can be found here.
Virgin’s online and telephone booking services will be unavailable until 5:00am on Thursday, October 7, and the airline’s web check-in, kiosk check-in and Check-mate services are also out of action until that time.
Virgin is also advising passengers travelling on domestic flights to arrive at the airport two hours before their flights so they can be checked in at Virgin’s counters.
Despite the cancellations and the expected check-in delays, Virgin remains confident that the planes it is running will get off on schedule.
“We don’t envisage, apart from weather-related delays, any more delays to our customers,” a spokesperson told ABC radio.
