Laser Clinics Australia has managed to increase its revenue by 71% over the last three years, hitting $189.6 million in 2017-18 on the back of private equity firm KKR Capital’s decision to buy a stake in the business.
With more than 100 clinics across Australia, the company has managed to carve out a sizable chunk of the personal care services space, with its retail-first model for procedures such as Botox and laser hair treatment.
Alistair Champion, who founded the business in 2008 alongside Babak Moini, left about a year ago to pursue other opportunities, but in his absence the company has continued to grow through its franchise model.
Laser Clinics has appeared on the Smart50 list every year since 2015, but has dipped down from 25th place last year as the company continues to expand, diluting its revenue growth.
As the company’s head of network growth Michelle Fazzolari explains, the priority for the business has turned to its franchise model.
“Although we were confident we had an exciting model, we were conscious of the fact we couldn’t increase our scale without driven and passionate franchisees,” she says.
“We devised a unique franchise joint-venture model where we share the risks and returns of ownership with the franchisee.”
What’s next for Laser Clinics? The business has just launched a chin sculpting product and next year will look to launch even more new products to keep up with customer demand.
Digital transformation is also emerging as a priority for the business, with the introduction of an online booking system, an e-commerce platform and a new digital interface under development.
