A new Symantec study shows one-third of employees in the US don’t access social networking sites from work, 16% access them up to five times per day and 2% look at their profiles more than 20 times in a single day.
The study of 336 IT professionals reveals that 53% of the time respondents spent on social networking sites was meant for work.
Additionally, the survey found only 5% of workplaces ban Facebook and Twitter, among other networks, while one third don’t block these sites but have policies stating when they can be used.
However, Symantec pointed out that 42% of organisations don’t have policies for social media use. The company says this will eventually become a major issue when cracking down on security threats, and workplaces need to develop their policies sooner rather than later.
