While I don’t want to live in a society where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, I do want to live in a society where all are encouraged to do their best and to contribute to the greater good.

Yes, a small change in company tax, but what else did people who are prepared to invest and employ others get from the latest Budget?

The mining super tax has put all of our super at risk and in turn impacts on the risk taking attitude of the entrepreneur.

Why is there so little discussion about how we want members of society to contribute?

Why is there so much discussion about rights and so little about responsibility?

Business is difficult, employing people is hard and yet this is the key to an economically healthier society which can afford more services, healthcare and education for everyone.

It sounds simple and we all know that governments, particularly this one, waste resources that could be used to improve people’s lives.

Business, rather than being under constant threat should be supported and encouraged, particularly in the extremely difficult global conditions we are experiencing.

Australia has so much opportunity and yet we have a government that seems intent on diverting investment funds elsewhere by creating uncertainty about returns in areas such as mining, where returns are already uncertain enough.

Has anyone bothered to look at the impact on those small- and medium-sized businesses which depend on mining? Small and large businesses whose livelihood is tied to the success of our mines?

Has anyone bothered to consider the loss of jobs and reduced prosperity of “working families” that grossly over used and meaningless phrase?

Responsible Australians who work hard, save their money and were planning for an independent retirement deserve more than this latest battering.

I had thought the GFC was enough, we simply need our government to encourage contribution, both capital and effort if we are to prosper in the future. We need a government that is genuinely interested in business and jobs for all.
