In yet another disappointment for Australian tech lovers, Apple has confirmed another delay in the international launch of the long-awaited iPad, this time pushing back the release to June 7.
It is just one of many delays announced by the company. It originally said pre-orders would start in early April with the device to ship later that month, then pushed that back into May. While pre-orders are now open, the company’s site says the device will ship on June 7.
While users will be frustrated, the delay isn’t necessarily a surprise. The company has repeatedly stated it underestimated just how popular the gadget will be – it has already sold over one million units in the US alone.
The delay could indicate the iPad could be more popular in Australia than some analysts have predicted. However, the company has said it has no details on pre-order numbers just yet.
It is reported the new shipping data will only affect users who order iPads from now on, and not those users who ordered the gadget within the past week.
SmartCompany contacted Apple to determine whether there was any date on pre-order numbers, or the reason for the delay, but no reply was received before publication.
