Ikea buys Taskrabbit
Furniture and homewares giant Ikea has required gig worker platform Taskrabbit for an undisclosed sum, reports Fortune.
There is speculation the purchase is yet another strategy to fight retail giant Amazon by taking control of an operation that can provide more in-store customer service to Ikea patrons, including by using Taskrabbit contractors to assemble Ikea furniture.
Business Insider reports Ikea has already been heavily involved with Taskrabbit, including a UK partnership to offer construction of Ikea flat pack furniture.
Closer to home, Ikea is already partnering with Australian on-demand task marketplace Airtasker.
Nokia launches 3310 into Australia — again
Phone giant Nokia will launch a 3G-capable model of its 3310 phone — the go-to mobile choice of the early 2000s — after seeing demand from Australian millennials,.
The brick phone was revived by the company in February, but was unavailable in the local market at the time as it was only released as a 2G model.
However, Fairfax reports the company will launch the 3G model in Sydney this week, complete with an updated version of the game Snake.
“Some people are buying it as a fun phone, for a summer phone, for a festival phone, and many people buy it as an object of desire,” HMD Global chief marketing officer Pekka Rantala said yesterday.
