Ahh, the mix tape. What better what to say you kinda like someone than to put together a tape of tunes carefully selected to appeal and impress. But the coming of CDs, and then online music, as threatened to make the humble mix tape just a little redundant.

According to Trend Hunter, a company called Mixaloo is trying to bring mix tapes into the 21st century. Mixaloo has a music library of 3 million songs supplied by a range of major labels and independent labels. The mix tape maker simply selects the songs they want from they list to create their own digital mix tapes, complete with title and ‘cover art’.

The digital mix tape can then be downloaded onto a iPod type device, onto social networking sites, or just a link sent through to a very special someone. The only problem is you don’t get full access to the music for free – unless you pay. Otherwise you just get a mix tape full of 30 second song grabs… not sure if that’s quite in the proper mix tape spirit.
