Great article Sue, this has to be the topic of the times.

We do need to provide ourselves with some evidence to support “feeling good about ourselves” or “feeling like we are in control”. We need more than a feeling when we are faced with adversity, particularly when it extends and threatens our endurance.

The worst problem in adversity comes through learned helplessness, the belief that what we do won’t make a difference.

We need to look and explore, analyse and then do something about:

  • Which parts are totally out of our control?
  • What parts have some origin in us? What parts do we own?
  • How far does this reach into the rest of my life?
  • What is my endurance like, and how do I lift it?

These empowering questions are revealed in Adversity Quotient by Paul Stolz (Ph.D), one of the few texts I regard as of vital impact and highly relevant to the society we’ve all created. Using established knowledge in the mind sciences, Paul takes us through a workable process to keep moving on and not be crippled through adversity.
