The wave of denial-of-service attacks directed at social networking sites Twitter and Facebook last week may have been used to deny an individual with profiles across the two sites.
CNET reports the attacks were targeting a pro-Georgian blogger with the name “cyxymu”, who has profiles on Facebook, Twitter and LiveJournal.
“It was a simultaneous attack across a number of properties targetting him to keep his voice from being heard,” Facebook’s chief security officer Max Kelly told the site.
The blogger has posted on the sites about his support fro Georgia, which was involved in an armed conflict with Russia last year. The origin of the attacks is unknown, but they managed to bring down Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal for a number of hours.
