In the middle of a mining boom, marketing yourself as FIFO experts is a pretty savvy move.
Maniac Mining offers permanent recruitment and labour hire services predominantly to the mining and mining services industries.
The WA-based business is focused on SMEs across all fly-in, fly-out site roles, from labourers to senior management.
It prides itself on staff accessibility and commitment – according to the company its clients work 24 hours a day, so they need to be contactable all day and night too.
Company founder Ashley Smith says the idea was sparked by personal experiences with recruitment companies, who were impersonal and only worried about placing a candidate.
Another incentive was to break the monopoly held by larger recruitment companies such as Hays.
“We started the business to make a difference and give an opportunity to those who may not otherwise have gained employment within the mining industry,” Smith says.
He says the company has taken a fresh approach to recruitment that reflects the varied needs of his client base.
“Our primary method of sourcing potential employees is online through both traditional and non traditional online media.
“This has resulted in a substantial candidate database covering a diverse range of roles.”
The company has also developed a niche working with indigenous candidates at all levels; drawing on several years’ experience of its team working closely with indigenous organisations throughout the Pilbara region.
